There are now more avenues than ever for adults to complete their basic education. Courses that train adults to pass a basic GED test as well as literacy and basic education programs are readily available, many of them state sponsored.

Although basic educational needs still play an important part in current adult education, over the past twenty years adult education has taken on an expanded meaning. Society is now realizing the need for continued learning and education throughout life. In fact, some studies suggest that continuing to learn can have a positive effect on the way the brain ages. Not only are adults going back to college to complete their bachelor’s or master’s degree, or to complete a second degree, adults are continuing their education purely to enhance their personal lives.

Adults often need continuing education to keep abreast in their profession. For example: changes in technology have increased the need for computer skills and changed the way companies market their products. This increases the need for adults to expand their knowledge base and more adults than ever are now returning to school in order to stay abreast of current technology and changes in the way business is conducted.

Adult education in the areas of technology and changes in business practices are often taught in the workplace, in secondary schools and in community colleges as extension courses or continuing education courses.

Changes on a global scale have also increased the need for continuing adult education. Employers often operate offices in several different countries, requiring many of their employees to be bilingual, which creates a need for continuing education in foreign languages. One of the fastest growing areas in adult education are courses in English as a second language.

In the 21st Century, more businesses are requiring their employees to have completed a college degree. Employees who wish to advance in a current job or take advantage of a booming job market cannot compete effectively without a college degree. This increased need for adult education on a college level has resulted in the expanding availability of on-line college courses.

To be effective, adult education must be taught differently than education for children. Adults have knowledge and life experience that must be taken into account. Adults also need a more practical approach to learning. Adults need to be able to apply the lessons to a real-world situation in order to learn effectively. Adults also are more goal-oriented than children and need a clear expectation that the lessons taught will help them reach a particular goal. This presents challenges to the educational system that are being successfully met by today’s educators through on-line classes, evening and weekend classes, and through training in the workplace.

Adult Education Nolonger For High School Dropouts is a post from: Online Education Guide

The Facts You Should Know About Adult Education College

Adult

Accreditation Status

Adult Education College

Better Person

Choosing A College

Colleges And Universities

Institutions

Internet Search

Mailbox

Many People

Money

Online Forums

Options

Probability

Reputation

Right Choice

Shopping

Surprise

University Education

Wrong Way

Yellow Page

It is no longer a surprise to see that many matured people are turning to adult education these days. But many people are going about it the wrong way. This article will assist you with useful tips that you can make use of while choosing an adult education college that will suit your needs. Not everyone makes the right choice when it comes to choosing a college. The problem of making a right choice is made difficult because of the thousands of colleges and universities out there offering adult education.

One of the factors to consider when looking for adult education college is to consider the accreditation status of the college in question. You should be aware that it is not every college or university out there is accredited. There is probability that you have come across some of them in your mailbox, requesting you to come and register for their programs. I do too but don’t bother reading them. Why? These type of institutions are not genuine. The genuine ones, I have since discovered don’t send mails to millions of people requesting for their registration. Make sure you look for a college or university that is accredited. When an institution is accredited, it means that the accrediting authority or agency has found it to be genuine. Also, it means that all their courses or programs are accredited which means that you will get good value for money when you attend them. When you are through, you are made a better person in the office and in the society at large. It should not be difficult for you find one of these genuine colleges or universities offering adult education.Make use of the internet to search for a local one near you. Other options that you can consult include the yellow page and the online forums. You will get more useful suggestions from others.

Another thing you should look at when shopping for a college or university offering adult education is the reputation of the institution. You can find out the reputation of a college or university by researching online. You should make sure that you fully comprehend what is written about a school before ever registering for their programs. Thanks to the internet, it is possible to meet with other matured people searching for adult education. Furthermore, many people that might have heard something about the institution can write it in online forums. These views will help you make a better decision.

The Facts You Should Know About Adult Education College is a post from: Online Education Guide

Adult Education Course – Study Virtually Every Subject

Adult

Academic Courses

Adult Education Course

Adult Education Teacher

Adult Student

Adults

Amount Of Time

Core Courses

Education Course Work

Education System

Effect Students

Entire Spectrum

Independent Learning

Intervals

Learning Environment

Life Experiences

Period Of Time

Rig

Short Period

Specialization

Time Constraints

An adult education course can be found in virtually every subject in the entire spectrum of the education system. Adults are going back to the class room in ever increasing numbers and this trend is increasing each year. This has spawned a new role in the education system, that of the Adult Education Teacher.

There is now a course of study for educators who wish to specialize in adult education. Course work for this specialization requires 15 hours in 5 core courses. The program invites anyone who has a desire to teach adults or work with adults in an educational setting. This program does not require a prior degree and is useful for teachers in all areas of adult education, from enrichment courses to remedial academic courses.

An adult education course is structured differently than courses designed for children. Adults have life experiences that must be taken into account in the educational setting and different needs for the course work. Adults also have time constraints that do not effect students who have not yet entered the working world.

An adult education course can take many different forms. One method for teaching an adult education course is an independent learning environment. This environment allows the adult student to study at a time that suits the student’s schedule. In an independent learning environment, the student and teacher meet at regular intervals to plot the course of the studies and review the student’s completed areas of studies. This type of course is well suited to adults who prefer working alone, as well as adults who are unable to commit to a set class schedule.

An intensive short adult education course will compact a course that would normally last an entire semester into a shorter period of time. This type of course is well suited to adults who already have some knowledge of the subject and for adults who are able to devote a larger amount of time to the course for a short period of time.

Finding the right adult education course can be a challenge for some adults who often require the assistance of an advisor to understand the prerequisites of the courses. Some courses are aimed at complete beginners and the student will need no prerequisite studies. There are also courses that are aimed at students who have either completed prerequisite studies or who have some prior learning experience in the workplace in the subject.

Some of the most popular adult education courses are, predictably, in Business, Computer Science and Education. Paralegal courses and nursing courses are also in great demand. These courses are in addition to the constant demand for adult education courses in basic reading, writing and math skills.

Adult Education Course – Study Virtually Every Subject is a post from: Online Education Guide

Adult Education In Canada

Adult

Accredited Colleges And Universities

Adult Education Associations

Adult Education Courses

Canada Adult

Canadian Literacy

Classroom Study

Colleges And Universities

Education In Canada

Experience And Education

Formal Classroom

Government Of Canada

Growth Spurt

Minister Of Industry

Place Students

Plar

Prior Learning Assessment

Private Career Colleges

Related Training

Self Confidence

Workplace Experience

Adult education in Canada enjoyed a major growth spurt between 1960 and the early 1990s. In a period of about 20 years, the number of adults enrolled in continuing education in Canada increased from approximately 4% in 1960 to 35% in the early 1990s. In a report published by the Minister of Industry in 2001, the results of the 1998 Adult Education and Training Survey showed that 28% of Canadians were enrolled in adult education courses, showing the first decline in adults enrolled in continuing education in over 30 years. A large majority of these adults were taking job-related training and courses, with 29% of the employed population enrolled compared to 20% of the unemployed population. Since 1997, studies show that the percentage of the population enrolled in adult education in Canada has remained fairly stable.

The government of Canada has a long history of supporting adult education. Associations such as The Canadian Association for Adult Education, The Movement for Canadian Literacy and the Canadian Council of Learning have promoted and encouraged the growth of adult education in Canada.

Assistance in gaining degrees is offered to adults in Canada through the Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) program, offered by most accredited colleges and universities, which gives adults credit for learning they have acquired outside of the formal classroom. PLAR helps educators place students at the appropriate study levels, eliminates the need for students to study subjects they already know and, as studies has shown, increases the student’s self confidence and motivation.

Canada has some unique and valuable approaches to adult education. One example is co-operative education where the student gains experience and education in a combination of paid workplace experience and classroom study. Co-op courses are offered in high schools, colleges, universities and private career colleges.

As in the U.S., there are a variety of institutions offering adult education in Canada. Basic adult education and adult literacy programs are offered at community colleges, online programs and some YM/YWCAs. Basic adult education in Canada is often free and classes are offered in a variety of day and evening schedules. The adult wishing to earn college credits or a degree can also find a variety of online and traditional universities and colleges.

Student loans for adult education in Canada are available through the Canada Student Loans Programs. This program offers access to higher education to Canadians who otherwise could not afford to attend college. Created in 1964, this program is an element of Canada’s Human Capital Agenda, the purpose of which is to ensure that Canadians have the education and skills necessary to compete in the marketplace of the 21st Century.

Adult Education In Canada is a post from: Online Education Guide

7 Tips to Success in Your College Study

Adult

Career Advancement

Constraint

Degree Program

Free Time

Greatest Challenge

Handbag

Homework

Important Point

Learning Curve

Leisure Time

Lunch Hour

Quite Some Time

Returning To College

Study Time

Study Tip

Suitcase

Time Allocation

Time Tip

Waiting In Line

Many working individuals are returning to continue their college study either offline or online. An adult education school offers courses ranging from basic math and reading skills to higher education degrees, from personal enrichment classes to guides to entrepreneurship.

Vocational and Trade Schools

Vocational and trade schools prepare the student for a job in a specific field, such as air conditioner repair, plumbing, computer repair or truck driving. But the vocational schools of today don’t just stop there. Some vocational schools even offer bachelor degree programs. Courses of study in a vocational or trade school can take from four weeks to four years to complete, depending on the course of study. A vocational school is often seen as a predominantly adult education school however, vocational and trade schools are a major choice for students who have not yet entered the work force.

Community Colleges

A community or junior college is an adult education school in addition to being a school for students who have not yet entered the workplace. Community colleges offer a two-year associate’s degree curriculum and some community colleges also offer vocational courses and certification.

In addition to offering a large selection of academic courses and a full daytime schedule, community colleges are well known for offering adult continuing education courses in basic reading, writing and math and personal enrichment courses with both night and weekend class schedules. These colleges and universities are offering an increased catalogue of evening and weekend courses geared to attract the adult student.

Online Schools and Courses

Online schools began in the early 1990s and have been increasing steadily in popularity because students are able to take courses from any computer terminal. While some online courses have a structured class time, many courses allow the student to do the work whenever it is convenient. This makes online schools a great option as an adult education school.

Online schools offer a wide variety of courses, ranging from accounting, to business administration to psychology and offer associate’s, bachelor’s and master’s degree programs. The lack of basic education impairs the ability of these adults to effectively function in the workplace, in the family and in society.

Adult education training focuses on teaching educators how to effectively train adults lacking in basic literacy skills. Teaching adults offers many challenges, not the least of which is that, if the adult is not sufficiently motivated, and if the courses are not geared to suit the adult student’s specific needs and goals, the adult will simply stop coming to class.

Adult education training teaches educators to identify the student’s needs and to incorporate the student’s prior experiences into the training curriculum. Adult students require a practical approach to learning, meaning that they need to be engaged interactively with problem centered course activities. The student’s goals must be incorporated into the learning process along with demonstrations of the practical applicability of the lessons.

Adult students need to be involved in the lessons through group discussions and activities, with opportunities for self-appraisal as well as appraisal and evaluation of the instructor.

Adult education training stresses that adult students must be motivated to continue their education for practical, as well as purely academic, reasons. Practical reasons for an adult’s motivation to continue education include elevation of the student’s social and economic status.

With the continued need for adult education and the stress many government entities are placing on adult education, there are surprisingly few courses offered in adult education training. Add the fact that, in order to learn effectively, adults need specific teaching skills that are different than those applied to teaching children to the increased need for adult education teachers and the lack of adult education training courses becomes more than just surprising, it becomes alarming.

There are nearly 30 million functionally illiterate adults in the United States. In 2004 the US Census Bureau reported that there were 6.2 million teachers in the United States. In 2003 there were 75 million people enrolled in schools in the United States with nearly 17 million students enrolled in college. There are no statistics available for adult students enrolled in basic education courses. However, these figures demonstrate a drastic need for additional adult education training courses and for additional educators.

Well trained adult educators are, naturally, more effective educators. Improving our adult education training will result in a workforce and population that is better educated and trained. A better educated workforce produces higher quality products and services, eliminating losses for substandard production. A better educated worker is happier in their occupation, eliminating loss of production due to excessive time off work and excessive employee turnover. Both the consumer and the worker stand to benefit from more accessible adult education training.

Adult Education Training is a post from: Online Education Guide

Adult Learning Education It’s Never To Late To Go To College

Adult

Adult Education

Adult Learning

Adults

Bachelor Degree

Bachelor Of Art

Bachelor S Degree

Convenience

Education Job

Education Programs

Financial Constraints

Going To College

High Speed

Internet Connection

Learning Education

Living Room

Priorities

Rank Education

Simplicity

Speed World

Wonderful Things

On your list of priorities where does education rank?
